Good afternoon everyone,
My name is Xavier, i am 56, and i have been sailing since I turned 6… but I remain a hobby sailor, with my 3 children and my wife.
I own a lovely First 31.7 in my lovely France, precisely in Morbihan (South Brittany)
I am about to relocate in Mallorca, i found an appartment in San Agusti. I speak French, English and German… learning spanish now.
I would be interested to get in touch with you, to understand better the sailing way of life in Mallorca and to see if I could join some day sailing tour or regatta, to help repairing/maintening beautiful sailing boats. I am taking care of my First 31.7 when i come back to Bretagne (Hopefully I will find good croissants here in Mallorca…
)
Wish you good and safe winds.
Xavier
Welcome Xavier! I moved here from Germany just a few months ago so I know exactly how it feels to be the new one. Everyone on this forum has been incredibly helpful.
Your children are lucky to grow up sailing — I am only just starting my Competent Crew course and wish I had started thirty years earlier. A First 31.7 sounds like a wonderful boat, will you be bringing her over from Brittany?
Bienvenido Xavier! A First 31.7 is a lovely boat — quick enough to be fun and forgiving enough to sail shorthanded with the family. You will enjoy her here, the conditions are very different from Morbihan but in a good way.
San Agustí is a great spot. You are ten minutes from the Real Club Náutico de Palma and close to several good marinas if you bring the boat over. Port Adriano and the Club de Mar are both reasonable options depending on what size berth you need.
The sailing here in autumn and spring is the best you will find anywhere in the Med. Summers can be light on wind some weeks but the embat (our thermal sea breeze) usually fills in by early afternoon. If you are used to Breton tides you will find life much simpler here — no tidal calculations, no drying harbours, just wind and waves.
Let us know when you are settled and need any local advice. Always happy to share a coffee at the port and talk about the good anchorages.
