One of the most common questions we get from visiting sailors is: what’s the wind like in Mallorca? Here’s a quick seasonal breakdown:
Summer (June–September)
The dominant wind is the thermal sea breeze (Embat), typically building from the south/southwest around midday to 12-18 knots, dying off in the evening. Mornings are often calm. The Embat is remarkably reliable in July and August — perfect for day sailing.
Spring & Autumn (April–May, October–November)
More variable. You’ll get a mix of Tramuntana (N/NE, can be strong), Poniente (W), and lighter days. Spring can bring unsettled spells with the tail end of winter lows. Autumn often has the warmest sea temperatures and some gorgeous sailing days.
Winter (December–March)
Strongest winds of the year. Tramuntana can blow 30+ knots for days. The Mestral (NW) and occasional Gregal (NE) also feature. Crossings to Menorca or Ibiza need careful weather windows.
