If you’re heading out from Palma for the day or an overnight, these are some of our favourite spots:
1. Cala Portals Vells — Three small coves on the southwest coast, about 12nm from Palma. Crystal clear water, good holding in sand. The westernmost cove is usually the quietest.
2. Illetas / Cala Comtessa — Only 5nm from the marina, perfect for a quick afternoon sail. Watch the depth — it shelves quickly near shore.
3. Cala Pi — A stunning narrow inlet on the south coast (~20nm). Dramatic cliff walls and turquoise water. Anchor outside the inlet mouth in settled weather.
4. Sa Calobra — A longer trip (~35nm) up the northwest coast, but absolutely worth it. The gorge entrance is incredible from the water. Only viable in calm northwesterly conditions.
5. Cabrera Archipelago — The jewel of the Balearics. You’ll need a mooring permit (book well in advance through the GOIB website), but this national park is unmissable. About 25nm south of Palma.
