Palma International Boat Show — worth going?

The Palma Boat Show is coming up soon and I’m wondering who’s planning to go. I’ve been every year for the last four and it’s always interesting, though it’s definitely grown more commercial.

What’s worth seeing:

  • The superyacht area is incredible if you like dreaming big
  • Equipment and electronics stands — good place to compare kit and get show discounts
  • RIB and tender demonstrations in the water
  • Networking — you meet interesting people from across the marine industry

Tips:

  • Go on a weekday if you can — weekends are packed
  • Wear comfortable shoes — it’s a lot of walking
  • Budget carefully — it’s very easy to buy things you don’t need just because there’s a show discount
  • The chandlery stands often have genuine bargains on end-of-line stock

Shall we organise a community meet-up at the show? Could be fun to put faces to usernames!

We’re definitely going — it’ll be our first one and we want to look at boats in the 35-40ft range. A community meet-up sounds great! Maybe a coffee or a beer somewhere at the show?

I go every year. The equipment stands are my favourite — last year I got a great deal on a new Raymarine display. The trick is to go on the last day when the vendors want to sell rather than pack things up.

A community meetup is a great idea. Count me in!

I’d come down from Alcúdia for a meetup! It would be great to finally meet everyone in person. I’ll be looking at navigation electronics — I’m thinking of upgrading my chartplotter.

Yes to the meetup! I went briefly last year but didn’t really know what I was looking at. Would be much better going with people who actually know about boats. Maybe someone can help me avoid impulse-buying a yacht I can’t afford!

I’ll sail down from Pollença for this. A community meetup at the show would be excellent. Katrin, shall we set a time and meeting point once the dates are confirmed?

Love the enthusiasm! I’ll post the dates and a meeting point once the show schedule is published. Looking forward to meeting you all in person!
