Copa del Rey — who's watching this year?

The Copa del Rey regatta is coming up in the Bay of Palma at the end of this month. It’s one of the biggest sailing events in the Mediterranean and it’s right on our doorstep!

For anyone who hasn’t seen it before, it’s spectacular — massive racing yachts, professional crews, and the Bay of Palma at its best. The atmosphere at the Real Club Náutico de Palma during the event is fantastic.

Dates: Last week of July (check the official website for exact schedule)
Where to watch: The best vantage point is from the water — sail out to the race area and watch from a safe distance. Otherwise, the Paseo Marítimo has good views and the yacht club opens up for spectators.

Anyone want to organise a spectator boat? We could sail out and watch from my Bavaria — I’ve done it before and it’s a great day out.

Who’s interested?

Yes please! I didn’t even know this was a thing. Watching from a boat sounds incredible — count me in!

The Copa del Rey is a world-class event. I watched it from the shore in Palma once before and it was impressive. Watching from the water would be even better. I’ll sail down from Alcúdia if there’s a plan!

Great idea Carlos. I watched it from the water a few years ago and it’s quite something seeing these boats up close — the speed and the precision of the crews is mesmerising. I might sail down from Pollença for it. Let’s coordinate!

We’re in! This sounds like a perfect introduction to the sailing scene in Palma. Should we bring anything? We’re experts at providing picnic supplies!

Brilliant! Sounds like we have a plan. I’ll post details once the race schedule is confirmed. @tom_lisa picnic supplies are very welcome! I’ll handle the boat and the drinks. Let’s make a day of it.
